Preamble to Certificate Course in The Philosophy of Vallabh Vedant (S’uddhadvaita) and Vaisnavism

Introduction & Rational :- The Department of Philosophy offers this Certificate Course in the Philosophy of Vallabh Vedant (S’uddhadvaita) and Vaisnavism in an endeavour to complete study and research in the diverse traditions of Indian Philosophy. At present, the Department is already offering course in the Sramana tradition on Buddhism and Jainism. A course in the Philosophy of Vallabh Vedanta will represent the Vedic tradition as well, for a holistic approach that could also encourage comparative studies.
Vedanta has expressed itself in a significant way in the Vaisnava tradition. Vaisnavism developed during the medieval period and gave rise to philosopher saints. Vaisnavism with its vision of an egalitarian and non-casteist society without gender bias is significant in contemporary Indian society. Vaisnavism also enriched the development of diverse regional languages and allowed the largely Sanskrit Vedic thought to percolate Prakrit.
